Module 9 - Compass

Worked scenario prompt

Scenario: you are planning a command-level passage where the plan, crew brief, evidence, and contingency choice must stand up to examiner scrutiny and Three Norths becomes the deciding topic. Conditions are workable but not perfect: the crew is mixed in experience, the tide or weather may change the margin, and another vessel or local constraint may affect your options.

A strong answer should not jump straight to a final word. State what you know, what you do not know yet, and what extra check would make the decision safe enough for Yachtmaster-level command judgement.

Key points

  • Say the hazard or decision in one sentence.
  • Identify the missing information before choosing the action.
  • Choose the simple conservative option when the margin is unclear.
  • Brief the crew in practical language, not exam shorthand.
